Summer Party cancellation and new NED Talks
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020
Because of the continuing COVID crisis, we have had to cancel this year’s Summer Party at Doggetts, which was to be held on 8th July. Adam Phillips has written to all members about this. Having now cancelled both the Spring Lunch and the Summer Party, the Steering Group has been discussing how to maintain the Network’s social activity, which is one of its primary functions.
The Research Network is a social organisation. We rely heavily on events to create opportunities for members to get together and talk. Videocall and conferencing apps such as Skype and Zoom can work well for small groups and even, with the right structures in place, for larger groups of participants. The Steering Group has therefore been developing a short series of social talks by members.
These virtual Network Evening Drinks meetings – NED Talks – will be held via Zoom on the third Wednesday each month in the early evening. Each NED Talk will have a speaker who will cover an interesting topic for about 20–30 minutes, followed by time for discussion and a general chat. The whole meeting will last about an hour and a half. The Talks will be free.
An invitation to the first NED Talk will be sent out in the next few days and further information can be found on the Events page of this website.
